The Sanskrit word ‘guru’ dates all the way back to Advayataraka Upanishad, the first known scripture to elaborate on the role of a guru. This scripture dates back to 300-100 BCE and possesses spiritual wisdom and continues to illuminate the Hindu tradition with discourses on how we, as humans, can lead a life that is enriched by this wisdom and therefore, the significance of a guru.
