Guru Purnima – A tribute to our Gurus

Lord Buddha delivering his first sermon

“Let each man take the path according to his capacity, understanding and temperament. His true guru will meet him along that path.”
― Swami Sivananda

The Sanskrit word ‘guru’ dates all the way back to Advayataraka Upanishad, the first known scripture to elaborate on the role of a guru. This scripture dates back to 300-100 BCE and possesses spiritual wisdom and continues to illuminate the Hindu tradition with discourses on how we, as humans, can lead a life that is enriched by this wisdom and therefore, the significance of a guru.
